One pen in Bastion’s range has collected more reviews than any other. It is the Stainless Steel Bolt Action Pen, priced at $44.99 with 1,235 reviews and a 92% five-star share.

We read the specs and the FAQ, then sampled many of the reviews, to check whether it earns the top spot.

Silver-finish bolt action pen from Bastion made of stainless steel

    Materials and Build

The pen is 100% stainless steel. It weighs 2.8 ounces and measures 5.25 inches long.

No other pen in Bastion’s regular lineup weighs more. Reviewers consistently treat the weight as part of the appeal, not a drawback.

Like every other Bastion model, it uses a Parker-style G2 refill. It comes in Silver or Black, and the bolt mechanism carries a lifetime warranty.

Two bonus items come with the order. They are a handwriting mini course and a productivity e-book.

    What Buyers Say

The pen has 1,235 reviews. Of these, 92% are five-star and 8% are four-star, with none lower, which makes it Bastion’s most-reviewed single model.

Joe K said the manufacturing quality is superb, the weight feels solid, and the pen looks sharp and well finished. They also said it sits very comfortably in the hand.

Randell Herbin owns four Bastion pens and described them as sturdy, pleasant to write with and very durable.

A recurring theme is that the bolt action doubles as a fidget feature. Michael Dean called it a great fidget toy as well as a pen.

That fits Bastion’s own FAQ, which says the mechanism needs a one to two week break-in before it feels perfectly smooth.

    Heft and Handling

At 2.8 ounces, the pen weighs nearly double Bastion’s 1.3-ounce Aluminum model. It is also almost twice the weight of the Titanium version, which comes in at 1.6 ounces.

If you like a pen that feels substantial and do not mind the weight over a long writing session, this model is the right choice.

One complaint is worth noting. Brian Powell asked Bastion to offer a knurled grip as an option, pointing to some slipping on the standard finish without one.

Anyone who cares about grip texture should seek out the Diamond Grip edition, whenever it is available, over the plain finish.

    Next to Its Rivals

Inside Bastion’s range, it is both the heaviest pen and the most classic design. It sits between the budget price of the Aluminum model and the lighter, premium feel of the Titanium one.

Pricier machined-pen brands such as Tactile Turn cost $99+. This pen costs under $50 and has a comparable lifetime mechanism warranty.

Is It the One to Buy?

For anyone after Bastion’s most classic, most-reviewed pen who can live with a bit of heft, it is the lowest-risk choice. The $44.99 price, the 92% five-star share and the lifetime mechanism warranty give it a strong case.

Plan on a brief break-in before the bolt action runs perfectly smooth. For long writing stretches, think about the Diamond Grip finish.
