One Piece is a long-running anime that has also become one of the most popular series of all time. It is among the biggest media franchises in the world too.

Netflix’s live action adaptation shows how far that popularity reaches. The show racked up 18.5 million streams during its opening three days on Netflix.

That adaptation inspired LEGO’s new lineup of One Piece models. The standout for us is the Going Merry Pirate Ship from that range.

A Chance to Build the Crew’s First Ship

This set lets you build the very first ship of the Straw Hat crew, styled after how it appears in the live-action series. You can relive your favorite scenes from the show’s first season, or from the countless anime episodes that came before it.

If you have followed Eiichiro Oda’s pirate legends for years, it is made for you. It suits a newer fan who found the story on Netflix just as well. Collectors who want each and every pirate ship LEGO offers should be happy with it too.

In every case, you end up putting together the famous vessel with plenty of detail.

    The Exterior, Piece by Piece

The model is a faithful recreation of the Straw Hat Pirates’ original ship, matching the Netflix show. You can sail along with the crew while you rewatch episodes on your tablet.

At the front sits the sheep figurehead, where Luffy can take his favorite spot. A cannon is mounted right below it.

The sail is printed with the iconic Jolly Roger skull, straw hat included.

The bow has the anchor deck. The stern has the quarter deck, complete with the rudder.

The main deck in between is littered with all sorts of supplies. Up high, a crow’s nest lets Usopp scout far ahead with his trusty optics.

The finished ship has the lively look of the one on screen.

Cabins, a Kitchen and a Workshop Below Deck

The ship is fully outfitted beneath the deck as well. It holds four rooms: a kitchen, a food storage area, a crew’s cabin and an accessory workshop.

Each space is decorated with accessories, so it resembles the actual rooms in the series. Even the kitchen is stocked with tiny pots and pans. That lets your minifigs whip up a meal in the middle of the ocean.

The set does not appear to have any moving parts. That would have made it more fun, and an adjustable sail would have been a nice touch.

    Piece Count, Minifigs and Size

The box holds a total of 1,376 pieces. Five minifigs and four wanted posters are part of that count.

The minifigures are Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji. That puts the entire crew on board, so the full gang sails together.

Once it is built, the model stands 13.5 inches high, runs 15.5 inches long and is 8 inches wide. That makes it a pretty big model to show off on a shelf somewhere.
