Backyards can hold all sorts of upgrades. Think patio furniture, a playground, a pool, a trampoline or a raised garden bed.

Magictecture has a bolder idea: a full roller coaster that you put together at home. It is called the Coaster in a Box, and it turns a yard into a small amusement park.

A Ride Scaled for Home Use

Do not picture a hundred-foot monster with loops and steep drops. This kit aims for a more relaxed ride that captures some of the amusement park feel without leaving your property. Think of it as a casual coaster for regular households, not a record-chasing thrill machine.

The coaster ships to your door and goes together piece by piece. Because it is designed for ordinary homes, it is smaller than the giants you ride at theme parks.

At its highest point, it reaches 25 feet. Its floorspace ranges from that of a two-car garage for the smallest model to that of a four-car garage for the biggest.

    Track, Strength and Speed

The track is made of modular boxes. The company says two people can assemble it, which means a friend is the only help you need.

It also claims the track can carry up to 500 pounds, which is enough for a cart with two riders aboard.

Top speed is 25 mph, which is quicker than most ebikes. That is a brisk pace for a ride built in a backyard, and it is still plenty for a thrilling trip around the track.

Three Sizes and Two Kart Types

The coaster comes in three sizes. The small one has 100 feet of modular box tracks and occupies 20 x 20 feet (that is height by width, and the depth is not mentioned).

The medium gives you 200 feet of track. The largest has 300 feet and takes up 25 x 50 feet.

All of the tracks are built for the company’s own karts, which come as single-seaters and dual-seaters. According to the company, each kart is self-propelled.

There is no word on what powers them. Electric motors with a rechargeable battery would be a fair guess, but it is only a guess.

Ridiculous? Of Course. Tempting? Also Yes

Does a coaster in your own yard sound absurd? Of course it does. Still, with plenty of open space and a big enough bank account, it is one of the more unusual ways to make home feel like the local carnival.

Now someone just needs to build a backyard Ferris wheel.

    Pricing and Availability

Preorders are open. The small, medium and large tracks cost $110,000, $165,000 and $220,000, in that order.

Karts are extra: $85,000 for the small one and $120,000 for the large one. The track and the kart are separate purchases, so plan for both.

Each coaster is built after you order, so expect a wait of three to four months.
