Every guide on ChoiceQuill follows the same method, so a score or a ranking means the same thing from one page to the next.
What the AE Score Means
A product card can show an AE Score out of 10. When a product has star ratings, the score is worked out from its star rating and how many ratings it has. Without ratings, the score is an assessment of the product’s published specifications and features for its category, made with the help of AI. Our editors can also set a score by hand, and that score is shown instead. The AE Score is not a lab result, and a card shows no score until one is available. Our reviews are based on published specifications, manufacturer information and owner feedback, and we do not handle or try out the products ourselves.
How We Order Our Lists
Each buying guide lists its products in the order set for that guide. Category pages list products by the score shown on each card, highest first. That score is our editors’ score when they set one, else the score from a current star rating, else the AI assessment. Products with the same score keep their order in the category list, and products without a score follow all scored ones in that same order. Visitors can also sort a category page by newest or by name. A parent category page ranks its own products and those of its subcategories together; between equal scores its own list comes first, then each subcategory’s list in name order. Brand pages rank their products the same way, and between equal scores a product placed higher in one of our category lists comes first. Badges such as Top Rated point out where a product stands out. Commission rates, promotions and brand relationships play no part in the order.
How Often We Update
We update a list when we learn that a product has changed or gone out of stock.
No Paid Placement
We never accept payment for a better position, a badge or a favorable score. When a link can earn us a commission, our Affiliate Disclaimer says so, and the commission has no effect on a score or a ranking.
