Dyson introduced the Dyson Cool in 2008, and it pioneered the bladeless fan design. Since then, the company has put bladeless designs into many other products. The list includes space heaters, air purifiers and humidifiers, besides cooling fans.

Through all of that, the original fan never received an update. The Dyson Cool CF1 changes that.

    Same Odd Looks, New Features

The unusual fan from more than a decade and a half ago finally has a successor, and it looks much like the original. It is not identical, though, because it brings more fan speeds, new oscillation options and several features that feel more current.

The CF1 has a short cylindrical body topped by a large round ring, which is very close to the original shape.

    Cooling Power and Quiet Operation

This version delivers impressively fast cooling, and its airflow peaks at 370 liters per second. It also offers 10 fan speeds, so you can decide just how strong the airflow should feel.

A brushless DC motor works together with the company’s Air Multiplier technology. That pairing amplifies the air the fan draws in by up to 13 times.

A built-in Helmholtz silencer keeps the noise down, even at full power.

    Oscillation, Tilt and Easy Cleaning

To spread air across a wider part of the room, the fan offers three oscillation options: 15, 40 and 70 degrees. A manual tilt lets you aim the airflow in a specific direction.

Wherever it faces, the airflow is designed to stay smooth and uninterrupted. There are no blades to cause the buffeting found in conventional fans.

Cleaning is as simple as it is with other bladeless fans. You only wipe down the outside, because there are no blades or grille to collect dirt the way they do on traditional designs.

    Screen, Sleep Mode and Timer

An updated LCD screen shows the current mode and airflow setting, which makes the CF1 feel like a proper modern appliance. Buttons underneath give quick access to power, airflow and oscillation.

A new Sleep mode runs the fan at a whisper-quiet 29 decibels. It also dims the display automatically, so nothing distracts you from slumber.

A sleep timer can shut the fan off once a set time has passed. We are not sure why you would want the fan off while you sleep, but the option is there if you want it.

    Remote and Energy Use

The included remote is shaped so it rests securely on top of the fan. You can reach for it to make adjustments, rather than squinting at the buttons low on the fan’s body each time.

The whole fan is designed to run efficiently, drawing only 30W at the maximum speed setting.
