Landscape lighting is easier to manage when the transformer plugs into your smart home. That is the idea behind DEWENWILS 300W Matter Smart Low Voltage Landscape Transformer, sold as the HSLT05M.

It costs $199.99 on the official DEWENWILS site and tops the brand’s smart transformer lineup. We studied the specs, the pairing steps and the reviews posted on the official product page to judge whether it earns that price.

    Power, Zones and Protection

This unit takes 120V household power and steps it down to 12V or 14V AC. Each of its 3 output zones can be set to its own voltage.

Total output across all zones is capped at 300W.

Its housing is billed as weatherproof and resistant to corrosion. Built-in overcurrent and overload protection cuts power before a short can damage your fixtures.

    Matter Support and App Control

Matter is the headline feature. Pairing starts with scanning a QR code.

After that, you can control the transformer through a SmartThings hub, Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple Home. The DEWENWILS app or the Smart Life app adds zone-level scheduling and energy tracking.

    What Buyers Report

Reviews on the official page are brief yet detailed. James M. gave 5 stars and called the setup “super simple”. The 3 independent zones were his favorite feature.

He added that the QR-code pairing into Alexa went smoothly on the first attempt.

The only real gripe concerns the enclosure rather than the electronics. One reviewer took off a star because the clasp on the access door left a gap of about a quarter inch.

They worried that water could get in over time outdoors. Inspect the clasp as soon as your unit shows up, and place the transformer where sprinklers do not hit it directly.

    Setup Pitfalls to Know

Because this model relies on Matter rather than an app alone, it avoids a complaint about DEWENWILS’s older Wi-Fi-only transformers. Their standalone app was criticized as unreliable on Android.

On those older units, SmartThings also sometimes showed one combined device in place of three separate zones.

Matter is still a fairly new standard for this category. Before you plan a full yard schedule, confirm that your hub exposes all 3 zones separately.

You also need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The transformer does not work on 5GHz-only networks. That trips people up with this type of device in general, not only DEWENWILS.

    How It Stacks Up

No other DEWENWILS transformer packs in as many features as the HSLT05M.

Compared with VOLT Lighting’s transformers, the trade-off is clear. You give up VOLT’s lifetime warranty and ETL/UL listing. In return, you get a lower upfront price along with Matter smart home support.

DEWENWILS itself offers a 12-month warranty and 30-day returns.

    Our Verdict

The HSLT05M fits best if your yard lights should join a smart home you already run. It works with SmartThings, Google Home, Alexa and Apple Home. Three independently scheduled zones make it the clearest pick in the DEWENWILS lineup.

On arrival, test how the door clasp fits. As a general habit, keep the unit out of the path of direct spray. Make sure the hub lists three separate zones before you commit to a full schedule.
